Founded in 2024, STREIFEN is a collection of objects that embodies the tension between strict rationalism and a frayed, poetic touch. It’s as if carefully curated lines attempted to dance, only to stumble, creating moments that are both deliberate and unexpected. Each piece reflects a deep exploration of materiality, where form and function are not simply about utility, but about an ongoing dialogue with the physical world. Designed by Madeleine Murdoch and Frances Normoyle, STREIFEN offers pieces that range from furniture to lighting, emerging from a shared commitment to design as a tool for reflection and engagement. We seek to use design as a medium for cultural critique and an exploration of contemporary life, questioning traditional boundaries between art, design, and craftsmanship. With over a decade of experience across design, music, and art, we integrate diverse skills—including object design, creative direction, and photography—to create a body of work that feels at once grounded and fluid, carefully curated yet open to the possibilities of the unknown. The word STREIFEN is rooted in the German meaning 'strip,' 'touch,' 'brush,' or 'slip.'
